Broker Q&A – Clark Patterson, Senior Advisor
Welcome back — what brought you back to Triton?
I’ve always had a strong connection to Triton and the Chicago market, so coming back felt like a natural fit. Triton has built a strong reputation in multifamily investment sales, and I saw an opportunity to bring my experience and relationships back to a team that knows the market extremely well. I’m excited to be back in Chicago and working alongside a group that is focused on delivering results for its clients.
What's your focus at Triton?
My focus is primarily on the acquisition and disposition of multifamily and mixed-use properties throughout the Chicagoland area, while also leveraging my experience in Southeast Florida. A big part of what I do is understanding what a property and its owner are trying to accomplish, then identifying the right strategy and the right buyer or investment opportunity to get there.
What are you seeing in the Chicago multifamily market right now?
There’s still a lot of activity, but buyers are being much more selective. We’re seeing strong interest in well-located assets with solid fundamentals, but underwriting and pricing have to make sense. Owners who understand where their property fits within the current market—and who are willing to be strategic about timing, pricing, and positioning—are putting themselves in the best position to succeed.
What's your advice to an owner thinking about selling in the next 12 months?
Start the conversation early. Even if you’re not ready to sell tomorrow, understanding your property’s current value and what buyers are looking for can help you make better decisions over the next 6 to 12 months. Preparation is critical, and having a clear understanding of the asset, the market, and the likely buyer pool can make a significant difference when it’s time to go to market.
What's the deal you're most proud of?
I’ve been fortunate to work on a lot of transactions throughout my career, and the deals I’m most proud of are the ones where we were able to solve a complicated problem for an owner and ultimately deliver a strong result. Whether it’s finding the right buyer, navigating a challenging situation, or identifying an opportunity that others overlooked, those are the transactions that tend to stick with you.
Outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, and staying active. After spending my career around real estate, it’s always nice to step away from the market for a little while and enjoy some time outside of work.
